New Bedford- Anthony R. Nichols of New Bedford passed away at Hathaway Manor on September 25, 2011. He was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Costa) Nichols, born on November 28, 1935, he was a lifelong resident. Anthony was a high school graduate and also attended Bristol Community College and SMU Dartmouth, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corp after 3 years of Service.
Mr. Nichols is survived by a daughter Catherine Nichols of New Bedford, a son Kenneth and his wife Christine of Bridgewater, 2 grandsons James and Connor, a sister Betty Viera of Dartmouth and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles, Albert, Leonard, and Robert Nichols, Elda Medeiros, Elsie Zingala, and Theresa Roderiques.
Anthony was employed by Columbia Electronic Cables of New Bedford from 1971- 1980 as Personnel Director, Carol Cable as corporate safety director from 1980- 1982, Claremont Management of Dartmouth as a landscape Foreman from 1983 – 1987 and Elf Landscaping until his retirement. He was an intelligent, articulate, artisticly talented man and had been extremely active in community affairs. His family would like to thank the Administrative Staff with special thanks to the nurses and C.N.A. caregivers on unit 1 at Hathaway Manor for their caring and compassion to Mr. Nichols and his family.
At the families request there will be no calling hours and his burial will be private. A mass of remembrance will be held on Tuesday February 7th, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. and an anniversary Mass on September 24, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. at St Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. Arrangements were by Perry Funeral Home.
