Obituary

Charles R. Watt, 73, of Raymond, NH died Saturday September 24, 2011 in the VA Medical Center, Manchester, NH. He was born in East Derry, NH on August 6, 1938, a son of Oscar and Ina (Smith) Watt. He was a resident of Raymond for the past six years, formerly living in Sandown, NH. In 1936, Oscar Watt opened Watt’s Auto Station and Salvage and Charles later took over as owner and operator until he retired in 2001. He owned and sponsored a racecar in the “Bomber” class at Hudson Speedway, Pine Speedway and Manchester Motordrome for many years. In 1958 his car was the Track Champion at Hudson Speedway. Having a lifelong, avid interest in racing of all forms, he helped to build and maintain racecars for local racing up until his recent illness. Having served in the US Air Force, he was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post in Raymond. He was also a member of the Halcyon Club of Derry and past president of the Rockingham Snow Stormers. While in Sandown, he was a Little League baseball coach.
He is survived by his daughter, Bobbi Ann Dross of Holderness, NH, three sons, John Patrick Watt and his wife Kristin of Peoria, AZ, Daniel E. Watt of Derry, Charles “CT” Tenney Watt and his wife Linda of Sandown, five grandchildren, April Dross, Stevie Lee Dross, Cameron Watt, Jocelyn Watt and Craig Watt. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Barton of Londonderry, his brother, Carleton Watt of Stanwood, WA and four nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday, September 27th from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services followed at 7:00pm in the funeral home. Following cremation, burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Londonderry.
