Robert Houston Wade, local businessman and lifelong resident of Montgomery County, passed away Saturday September 24, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center.
He was born on November 7, 1921, in Montgomery County to Arch and Georgia Tanner Wade.
Houston attended schools in Montgomery County, served as an air traffic controller in the US Army Air Force for three years during World War II in England and France and was an electrician on the Clarksville Base for seventeen years. He owned and ran several businesses in the New Providence area until his death.
Houston served on the Montgomery County Commission for twenty years. During his tenure, he served on various committees of the comission and worked diligently to improve Montgomery County.
Houston was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Katherine Howell Wade.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (C.V.) Alexander and Joyce (Roy) Dial all of Clarksville. He is survived by four grandchildren, Michelle (Gary) Wallace, Carla Allison, Jeff Atkins, Scott Atkins, eight great grandchildren. Grandson Mark Atkins, preceded him in death along with two brothers, Norman Wade and Arch Wade and sister, Hazel Wade.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday , at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. B.J. Brack and Gary Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday and 10:00 AM until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bob McGinnis, Merrill Trotter, Evans Peay, Jack Evans, Bennie Skinner, Reber Kennedy and George Bartee.
Honorary pallbearers will be his beloved Sunday School Class, Koina Class of New Providence Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Providence United Methodist Church.
