Obituary

Arthur R. Evans, 80, of Derry, NH, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Evans was born in Hillsborough, NH on September 23, 1923, a son of the late Paul B. and Marion (Gilson) Evans. He was a resident of Derry for 60 years, formerly living in Windham, NH. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1942. Mr. Evans served in the US Army during WWII as a member of the 112th Calvary stationed in the South Pacific. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was the owner and operator of Derry Feed and Supply in Derry since the early 1940's. He loved the store and his customers. He was a member of the Bektash Shrine and the Legion of Honor. Mr. Evans enjoyed masonry and was a past master of St. Mark's Lodge #44 F&AM of Derry. He was also a past president of the Derry Lions Club during the 1950's. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Derry.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Chadwick) Evans of Derry, one daughter, Ann M. Evans of Derry, one son, Arthur "Bud" Evans and his wife Katrina of Derry, three brothers, Paul Evans and his wife Marcy of Madison, WI, Wayne Evans and his wife Bette of S. Yarmouth, MA, Robert Evans and his wife Barbara of Center Barnstead, NH, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1st at 2:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 - 6pm in the funeral home. St. Mark’s Lodge will conduct a masonic ritual at 5:30 during calling hours.
