Augusta, GA – Jane Johnson, 86, wife of 50 years to the late Joseph J. “Joe” Johnson, entered into rest on Monday, September 19, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Platt’s Funeral Home Crawford Avenue Chapel Rev. Dr. Todd Upchurch officiating. Entombment will follow at Westover Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Jane was born in Hartwell, GA to the late Clark E. and Sally Hall Beasley. She left her home and moved to Atlanta, GA and worked for Bell Aircraft to support the war effort during WWII. During this time she would eventually meet her husband. After marriage, Jane worked for Belk’s Department Store in Augusta, GA for 50 years. She also worked as a volunteer for many organizations in the CSRA. Jane was the recipient of the George H. Seal Memorial Award for Exceptional Volunteerism at the VA Medical Center. She was a life member of the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Joseph J. “Joey” Johnson, Jr. and wife Margaret of Augusta, GA, sister, Sarah Cole and husband Barney of Cheyenne, WY, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, the late George Beasley, and two sisters, the late Lucy Stowers and the late Julia Mann.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the funeral home.
