Doris Abbott Tilghman, 90, of 226 South Raleigh Court, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born in Danville on September 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Elisha Burnell Abbott and Tiller Ceanie Sigmon Abbott. On November 28, 1945 she married Cecil Herman Tilghman who predeceased her on December 14, 2002. She was a long time member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Tilghman is survived by one son, Jeffrey Tilghman and his wife, Susan, , of Pittsville, Va, and one daughter, Anne T. Bowman, and her husband, Garry, of Durham, NC; two grandchildren, Hilary Bowman Dredla, and her husband, Russ, of Istanbul, Turkey, and Gordon Bowman of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by one sister, Dovie “Bootsie" Ferrell, and a brother, Tom Abbott, both of Danville.
Graveside services for Mrs. Tilghman will be held at Highland Burial Park on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Glover-Wetherington officiating. The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
