Stanley N. Atwood, a 40 year resident of Reading, died on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following a courageous 15 year battle with lymphoma. He was 85 years old.
Stanley was born in Nova Scotia, Canada on August 12, 1926 to the late George and Gladys (Wickens) Atwood. He grew up in Doctors Cove, Nova Scotia where he attended public schools and graduated from high school. He immigrated to the United States and became a United States citizen at the age of 24. Stanley worked for more than 35 years as a Service Manager for Lynnway Dodge in Lynn. Following his retirement, he became a flea market enthusiast, enjoyed antiques but most of all he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
Stanley is the beloved husband of 40 years to Mary Ann (Thompson) Atwood. He is the devoted father of Thomas Atwood and his wife Lynne of Alton, New Hampshire, Gary Atwood and his wife Denise of Salsbury, Maryland, Marsha Greenwood and her husband William of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Barbara Bamberg and her husband Kurt of Derry, New Hampshire. He is the loving Grampy Atwood to 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Stanley's Funeral on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St. North Reading at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m.
