Obituary


Achille, Rocco G. of Sandwich and Ocean Ridge, Florida, formerly of Hingham died suddenly on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at his home. The beloved husband of Florence (Kneeland) McNeilly of Sandwich and former husband of the late Catherine (Allan) Achille. Cherished father of Rocco Achille and his wife, Shelly of Wareham; Catherine White and her husband Ted of Hingham; Paul Achille and his wife, Lisa of Leonardtown, MD; and John Achille and his wife, Peggy of Plymouth. Stepfather of Matthew McNeilly and his wife, Susan of Pembroke; Mark McNeilly and his wife, Christine of Kingston; Jill McNeilly and her husband, Dennis Thibeault of Franklin and Jonathan McNeilly and his wife, Catherine of Scituate. Brother of the late George Achille. Rocco is also survived by his 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a niece, Judy and nephew, George, and many cousins.

Rocco was born and raised on a family farm in Hingham, well known for raising turkeys and for having a large floral business. Rocco raised his family in Hingham before moving to Sandwich in 1997. He was a proud veteran of the Air Force and served at Burtonwood Airfield in Warrington, England, where he met his first wife, Catherine. He was a member of the Burtonwood Association. He was a Certified Professional Engineer and began his career at Bradiotis & McConnell in Brookline before taking a position at Digital Equipment Corp. where he retired from in 1994. Rocco enjoyed working around his home, gardening and found great pleasure in feeding and caring for wildlife in his own back yard. He enjoyed walking on the Cape Cod Canal and especially liked living by the ocean. He was an avid Boston Sports fan. He’ll be remembered as a true gentleman who was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by all those blessed to have had him in their lives.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.) HINGHAM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM.

Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rocco may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
