FAIRHAVEN - Barbara (Devine) Walmsley, Age 100, formerly of New Bedford, died on Thursday September 15, 2011 at Our Lady's Haven in Fairhaven after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Bertram L. Walmsley.
Born in England August 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late James and Jane (Howarth) Devine. She came to the New Bedford area in 1923 and moved in 1940 to the Central Falls/Pawtucket, R.I. area returning to New Bedford in 1983. In earlier years she was a weaver in local textile mills. She was a former member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Central Falls and a member of the Episcopal Churchwomen.
Sister of the late James H. Devine, she has cousins in England and is survived by her dear friend and caregiver Anna Lemieux of Licoln, R.I.
Services were held on Monday September 19, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilson Chapel 479 County St. New Bedford, Ma. with the Rev. Jack Haney officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
