Obituary

In Taunton, September 14, 2011 Catherine V. “Vonie” Roberts, age 87 passed away in Taunton Nursing Home following a period of declining health. Catherine was born in Taunton to her late parents Charles & Mary (Leahy) Roberts. She was educated in Taunton schools, a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1941. Catherine also graduated from Morton Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and received her bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1962. She served her country as a nurse, instructor and charge nurse during both the Korean & Vietnam Wars in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a commander in 1976. Catherine received many medals during her service including; National Defense Service Medal (with star) and the Good Conduct Medal. Catherine was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Boston University Alumni, Morton Hospital Alumni, Disabled American Veterans, Navy Nurse Corp Association, Charter member of Women’s Memorial Association and the WWII Memorial Association. She enjoyed sports, walking and family gatherings. Most of all she cherished her time watching her nieces and nephews sporting activities. She was always dedicated to the care of her family. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the love and care Catherine received at the Taunton Nursing Home. Catherine was preceded in death by her siblings; Carmelita Roberts, Mary Sherman, Margaret Meunier, John Roberts, Gerard Roberts, William and Raymond (Buddy) Roberts. Catherine is also survived by several nieces and nephews including; Margaret (Peggy) O’Donnell, John (Jack) Morrissey, Raymond (Teddy) Roberts, Karen Bunnewith, John (Jay) Wilbur, David Wilbur, Debra (Wilbur) Meunier, Lauren Meunier, Lindsey Meunier, Gwendolyn Bunnewith, Rhiannon Wilbur, Keith Morrissey,Craig Morrisey, Kristen Roberts, Katie Roberts and several more. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma. 02780 on Monday, Sept. 19th at 10am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church in East Taunton at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday from 6-8pm. Burial will be in the Bourne National Cemetery at 1:15pm.
