WEBSTER – Kathleen Norton Lipski, 63, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at home after being stricken ill.
She leaves 2 daughters, Megan L. O’Leary of St. Petersburg, FL and Hannah M. Lipski and her fiancé Carlo R. Lombardo of Dudley; a son, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Patrick T. Lipski, serving with the U.S. Navy in Iraq; a sister, Marilyn N. and her husband A. Richard Karkutt of Westerly, RI; a brother, Laurence E. Norton and his partner Myrna Colon; her former husband, John A. Lipski of Woodstock, CT; 4 grandchildren, Tristen, Amber, Makenzie and Angelo. She was preceded in death by her brother James G. Norton in 2009.
She was born in Webster, a daughter of Gerald H. and Marion H. (Haggerty) Norton and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1965 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in English from Salve Regina College in 1969.
Mrs. Lipski was a history teacher at Bartlett High School for 39 years, retiring as department head in 2008. She coached the girls cheerleading team in the 1970’s as well as the girls softball team for over 35 years until she retired. She was a member of the B.H.S. Hall of Fame Committee and a member of the Bartlett Sports Alumni.
She volunteered at the annual Saint Louis Church Festival. She was a frequent Red Cross blood donor. She belonged to the former Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild for many years. She was a prolific gardener with a green thumb. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Monday, September 19, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
