Peter Dumont, 59, of Dartmouth died unexpectedly on Wednesday August 3, 2011. He was the husband of Susan L. (Alves) Dumont.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Margaret M. (Brown) Dumont and the late Louis L. "Pete" Dumont, he lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth for most of his life.
Peter was employed by the Steamship Authority for many years. He had previously been a commercial scallop fisherman for ten years.
He was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife and mother; a son, Matthew Charles Dumont of Dartmouth; two sisters, Diane Wayner of Fairhaven and Paula White and her husband David of Acushnet; a niece, Jennifer Wayner; three nephews, Brandon Wayner, Ian and Shaun White; an aunt and several cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Monday morning 9-10:30 AM. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Humane Society & Shelter - Southcoast, 31 Ventura Drive, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
