Puffer, Donald M., a lifelong resident of Wellesley, passed away July 15, 2011 at the age of 102. He was the beloved son of the late Robert W. and Blanche (Smith) Puffer, and brother of the late Robert W. Puffer Jr. A retired stockbroker, Mr. Puffer had worked in Boston and Vermont for Ballou, Adams & Co and later for Putnam, Coffin and Burr. He was a proud graduate of Noble and Greenough School (class of 1927) and attended Harvard College (class of 1931). Mr. Puffer served his country during WWII in France and Germany with the U.S. Army Medical Corps, 100th Division. Known as “The Mayor of Abbott Road”, Mr. Puffer lived for 98 years in his childhood home a short distance from the Wellesley Country Club of which his father was a founder in 1910. Mr. Puffer was a lifelong member and an avid golfer known for his smooth swing. He is survived by: his nephew, Robert Puffer III of Acton, MA and his niece, Ann McGoldrick of Princeton, NJ; two great nephews, Brad Puffer (Framingham, MA) and Scott McGoldrick (Princeton, NJ); two great nieces, Sarah McCarthy (Bedford, NH) and Jennifer Solomon (Needham, MA); and nine great great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thu., Aug 4, at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. The burial will be private. Donations in his name may be made to the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church or Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA.
