GLOUCESTER: Marilyn Helmie Aho (Meadows) Buckles, 58, of Western Avenue passed away early Saturday morning, March 12, 2011 following a nearly year-long struggle with brain cancer. She was the wife of David E. Buckles.
Born in Gloucester on July 3, 1952, she was the daughter of Concetta M. (Lovasco) Meadows and the late Walter F. Aho Meadows. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1970. She went on to receive her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and her MFA from Wichita State University. She had returned to Gloucester in 1980.
Mrs. Buckles had taught at West Parish Elementary, Beeman Memorial School and the former St. Mel Day School, as well as conducting private art lessons. Up until the time of her illness, she was employed by St. Ann’s School, a position she truly enjoyed.
In addition to her husband of 32 years and her mother, she is survived by her children, Clayton, Carrie and Casey Buckles; mother-in-law, Virginia Stokely-Thomas; a brother-in-law and five sisters-in-law; many cousins including Joanne Dunphy, Gilbert Laidlaw, Barbara Bader and Thomas Aho. She also leaves behind many dear friends including, Pamela Eastman.
