Mr. Philip P. Marotta 85 of Medford died Wednesday in the Chelsea Soldiers Home. He is the husband of Frances (Vaccaro) Marotta with whom he shared more than 63 years of marriage.
Mr. Marotta was born in Boston, the son of the late Frank and the late Mary (Alba) Marotta. He spent his early years in East Boston and has been a resident of Medford for over 63 years. Mr. Marotta is a veteran of WWII in which he served with the Army Air Force. During that time he was stationed in Guam achieving the rank of Corporal by the time of his discharge. Mr. Marotta was a Patrolman and dispatcher for over 26 years, with the former Metropolitan District Commission (M.D.C.) which later became the Massachusetts State Police. He was also a member of the D.A.V. In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons: Frank Marotta and his wife Carolyn of North Hampton, Philip Marotta Jr. of Revere, Paul Marotta of Arlington and Robert Marotta of Medford, 2 grandchildren Philip & Perry Marotta. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Frank Marotta. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Chapel of the Chelsea Soldier's Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, Saturday at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Philip’s name may be sent to St. Michael’s Chapel, 91 Crest Avenue Chelsea MA. 02150. Visiting hours will be held at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street MEDFORD on Friday from 5-7 pm and on Saturday at St. Michael’s Chapel from 9-10 AM. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
