Simon P. Springer age 85 of Metamora, passed away at 7:04pm Thursday April 1, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born January 15, 1925 in Roanoke Il, to Peter and Lydia (Eash) Springer. He married Jewell Stringer July 21, 1948 in Eureka. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons David Springer of Farmingdale New York, and James (Debbie) Springer of Metamora; one daughter Jane (Tom) Hagan of Metamora; five grandchildren, Josh (Nikki) Springer, Justin (Kim) Springer, Sara (Justin) Dentino, Neil Hagan, and Natalie Hagan; one great grandchild Taylor Dentino. Simon was preceded in death by an infant son Steven; his parents, two brothers Roy and Vernon and one sister Dorothy.
Simon was a Army Medical Corman during the Korean War. He worked at ABC Manufacturing, Martin Brothers Implement, and then at Caterpillar for 30 years. Simon was a life long member of Roanoke Mennonite Church. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter, and always thought more of others than himself.
Graveside services will be at 10:00am Monday April 5, 2010 at Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the Roanoke Mennonite Church.
