Rita N. (Finnegan) McCarthy, 88 years old, wife of the late Leo McCarthy, died Thursday morning at Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford.
Born in Lowell on June 30, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John and Nora (Murphy) Finnegan and received her education at Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High School.
Many years ago, Mrs. McCarthy worked as a spinner at the former Ames Worsted Mills. She than was a homemaker for her family whom she cared for dearly. Mrs. McCarthy was a devout member of the former Sacred Heart Church where she was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She also volunteered for many different functions at the Sacred Heart Church. After the Church’s closing, Mrs. McCarthy became a member of the Holy Family Parish in So. Lowell.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter in law, Robert N. McCarthy and his wife Karen, John McCarthy and Richard McCarthy all of Lowell; a daughter, Noreen R. McCarthy of Haverhill; six grandchildren, Brian, Robert, Michael, Moriah and May-Tal McCarthy and Lisa Meyers; five great grandchildren, Connor, Kaleigh, Crystal, Devin and Dillon McCarthy and one great great granddaughter, Katrina McCarthy.
Mrs. McCarthy was also the mother of the late Kathleen McCarthy who died in 2008.
McCARTHY- Relatives and friends may call on Monday Aug.31 from 4 until 8 pm at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST (Rte38). Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 10 am at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, CHAMBERLIN ST. followed by Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LOWELL.
