Douglas T. McGinty, a 48 year resident of Somerville, died on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. He was 73 years old.
Douglas was born in Pittsfield, MA, on January 28, 1936. He grew up in different sections of Boston and his family settled in the West End section of Boston where he attended Boston Public Schools. He worked as a painter for more than 20 years at Harvard University in Cambridge.
Douglas is the beloved husband of the late Harriet A. (McKinnon) McGinty. He is the devoted father of Helen Ramirez of Chelsea, Debra Pimental and her husband Robert of Middleton, Diane Wise and her husband Paul of Topsfield, Susan Pelkey and her husband Andrew of Gardner and Cheryl McGinty of Everett. He is the loving grandfather of 9 grandchildren, the late Allison Williams and 5 great-grandchildren. He is the brother of John McGinty, Lois Lacey, Yvonne Shaughnessey, the late Jeannette Rochford, Rita Brenner and Russell Guertin.
Douglas's Funeral will be held on Monday, June 29, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 28, 2009, from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
