Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Jane E. (Place) Grossi, 76, of McPherson Park died peacefully Wednesday morning, April 29, 2009 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Nicholas S. Grossi, Jr., who died in January of 1987.
Born in Gloucester on August 12, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Mildred (MacDougall) Place. She was lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduate of the Gloucester High School. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, she served in the WACs, having been honorably discharged in August of 1953.
She was a devoted mother, sister and grandmother, who loved being with her family. Jane was also a wonderful cook, who thoroughly enjoyed giving lessons and passing on the Grossi family recipes; most notable was her dirty soup, raviolis and rigatoni with meatballs. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her five children, Nicholas S. Grossi, III, companion of Ann Marie Mires, Michael, Sr., husband of Patrice Grossi, Cheryl, wife of Philip Hobbs, Joyce, wife of Jamie Phinney, Erik, husband of Lisa Marie Grossi, twelve grandchildren, Wayne, husband of Cynthia Grossi, Gilbert Brown, Michael, Jr., husband of Rachel Grossi, Derek Grossi, Nicole Grossi, Shelly Mason, Elyse Mason, Jamie Mason, Andie-Jane Phinney, Marc Phinney, Felicia Grossi and Jessica Grossi, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Daisy Place, Dorothy Place, Barbara Mitchell and Marlene Place, and six brothers, Abbot, Robert, Vernon, Richard, Ronald and Charles “Sonny” Place.
In keeping with her wishes, prayers of committal will be held privately on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Calvary Cemetery with family members and close friends.
