Loving wife, mother, and grandmother; 78

TEWKSBURY- Marie “Betty” (Mason) King, age 78, long-time resident of Tewksbury, died peacefully in her home Thursday, April 9, 2009, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
She was the wife of John “Jack” King with whom she would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in May. Jack was her best friend, soul mate, and the love of her life.
Born on July 24, 1930 in Newton, she was the daughter of the late Rees and Ella (Pemberton) Mason.
She spent most of her early life in Billerica, graduating from Howe High School. She was a talented artist in high school and many of her drawings were featured in her yearbook.
After graduation she worked for the United Fruit Company. When she became a mother she realized the true joy of her life were her children and family. For many years she cared for her children and in her later years worked at Shawsheen Valley Technological High School cafeteria in Billerica.
Marie “Betty” King was an accomplished artist and enjoyed creating pieces of artwork, such as paintings and craft items, for her loved ones. She had a life filled with happiness with her good friends; dancing, playing card games and laughing. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family and spent many hours with her children and grandchildren. Her spirit of loving, kindness and compassion was spread to all her knew her.
Betty had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and she will be deeply missed.

In addition to her husband Jack, Betty is survived by her sons, Michael King and his wife Valerie (Ansill) of Chelmsford, Brian King and his wife Diane (Cushenette) of Groton, and John King and his wife Michelle (Caron) of Dracut; her grandchildren, Jackie, Cara, Jimmy, Tyler, Devin and Lillian King; her sisters-in-law, Kay Mason of Lowell and Helen Webber of Westboro.

Betty is the sister of the late Vernon Mason of Lowell and sister-in-law of the late William Webber of Westboro, and the late Mary and Richard Mackey of Tewksbury.
Visiting hours Monday, April 13th, 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Service Tuesday, April 14th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell, P.O. Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853.
