Dorothy U. Spaulding, 93, passed away on December 28th, 2008 at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 30th, 1914 to her parents James and Undine (Ryan) Meason. Dorothy has been a resident of Medford for most of her life. She spent over 30 years working at the Kernwood Restaurant. Dorothy was a devout catholic. She has been a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Medford for several years. She served the parish as an Extraordinary Minister and Lector. In 1990, she became a minister of the Third Order of St. Francis. She belonged to many facets of the parish including the Friends of St. Francis, the Ladies Sodality, the Hospitality Outreach Group, the Damien Society, the Food Pantry and the Women’s Club. She was also a member of the AARP Social Group, the Forever Young Club and the Medford Senior Citizens Club where she once held the position of Hospitality Chairperson. Dorothy is survived by her children, Donald E. Spaulding of Nevada, Jeanne Grant of Wilmington and Richard M. Spaulding of Colorado. She is also survived Thirteen grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Edward Spaulding; by her son Robert L. Spaulding and by her siblings Helen Merrill, Madelyn Rosco, Vivian Spaulding and James Meason. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Friday January 2nd at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park n West Peabody. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday January 1st from 4-8 PM.
