Obituary

Leonard Richard Carreau, 82, of New Bedford died Tuesday August 12, 2008 at home. He was the husband of Florence M. (Hathaway) Carreau.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph A. and Jennie (Teixeira) Carreau, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mr. Carreau was formerly employed by Continental Screw Company for 36 years and Acushnet Rubber Company for five years before retiring in 1988.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a Motor Sergeant with the 55th Signal Repair Company. He was a member of Fort Phoenix Post 2892 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheryl A. Glass of Taunton; two grandsons, Robert B. Francis and Brian M. Francis; and a nephew, David Carreau.

He was the brother of the late Richard E. Carreau and uncle of the late Michael Carreau.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
