Obituary

Mr. James William White, Jr. AKA “Big Daddy” was born February 21, 1943 to the late James William White, Sr. and the late Arwillie Romine White. James departed this life on March 18, 2008 peacefully at his home. James confessed hope in Christ many years ago and was baptized by Pastor James Lane. James later completed Real Truth Bible Studies with Pastor James Bush and also Sister Addie Ray. James loved the Lord and committed himself to Lord.

James was employed by the Huntsville Times for 36 years in various jobs, but retired in August 2000 from the Composing Room at the Huntsville Times. He also worked as my Day Care Substitute for about 8 years until he became ill. James loved children and the children loved him. Not only was he known to grandchildren as “Big Daddy,” but the daycare children during that time also. James enjoyed playing golf during his earlier years and would sometimes swing a club or tow in our game room and also enjoyed shooting pool in our game room when he was able. He was a very soulful saxophone player; in 1996, he was honored for his rendition of “Auld Lang Syne.” He was the best Barbercurer/Griller there was. He barbecued for both of our families and friends. He loved it. We did a lot of traveling before James got sick and just about anything that we wanted to do, he would make sure it would happen. We lived each day with a lot of enjoyment; as I said we did a lot of traveling, but this journey, James had to make alone, though a part of my heart did go with him. He was great husband a father.

James leaves to cherish his precious memories: a devoted and loving wife, BJ White; two sons: William Dexter White and Anthony White; one stepson: Sean Travis Steele (Felicia), all of Huntsville, Alabama; one daughter, Verneda L. Hughes (Kwone) of Japan; one stepdaughter, Tracey N. Grant of Huntsville, Alabama; one brother, Willie E. White, Sr. and one sister, Alice Jean White, both of Huntsville, Alabama; three aunts: Suplnonia Robinson, Easter Adams, both of Huntsville, Alabama and Viola Romine of Cincinnati, Ohio; ten beautiful grandchildren: Ashley, Morgan, Sean, Anthony Jr., Leander, Brandi, Syndia, Sean II, Taylor and Jonathan; a host of wonderful nieces and nephews, other dear family and friends.

Funeral Service for Mr. White will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 12:00 Noon at the New Life Seventh Day Adventist Church (4906 Bluespring Road NW - Huntsville, Alabama) with Pastor Harold Goodloe, Officiating.
