WEBSTER – Charles J. Motyka, 72, of 51 Harris Street, died Monday, November 6, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Leonora (Parda) Motyka; three daughters, Margaret M. Shinkle and her husband Richard of Billerica, Elaine F. Motyka of Concord, NH, and Theresa A. Motyka of Rochdale; three brothers, Edward Motyka of Norwood, Stanley Motyka of Southbridge, and Deacon Peter Motyka of Dudley; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Walter Motyka.
He was born in Webster, one of the seven sons of Stanley and Mary (Pietruszka) Motyka, and lived here all his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1951.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Army Band.
Mr. Motyka worked as a compositor for the Webster Times and then for the Norwich Bulletin. He was the maintenance man at Park Avenue Elementary School for several years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica. He was a life member of the Polish American Citizens Club, and was the organization’s secretary and then treasurer for many years. A lifelong musician, he first played the saxophone and clarinet for the Four Sharps Orchestra, and then was a bass drummer, saxiphonist and clarinetist for the Pulaski Brass Band. He also privately taught clarinet.
The funeral will be held Saturday, November 11, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace.
