Susan J. Marcone
11/22/2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan J. Marcone, who was unfairly taken from this world on November 22nd after a short battle with cancer. A pillar of strength and a beacon of love and kindness, her absence leaves a void in every person she met, as she touched the lives of all who knew her. She loved her family fiercely, especially her husband Ralph, daughter Sarah, son-in-law Dennis Guerin, her granddaughter Brooke, her son James and his partner Jenn Samberg.

Susan was born in Fall River and attended Merrimack College, where she met her husband. They married shortly after and enjoyed 47 wonderful years of marriage. She had a special bond with her two sisters, Merrianne Terranova and Joyce Botelho. Being the oldest of her sisters, she was a role model, a protector, listener and lifelong friend: “Being a sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life” - and she was the epitome of this. Susan is also survived by their husbands: Joseph Terranova and Michael Botelho, and her nieces and nephews: Arielle, Dominick, Zachery and Caleb. Susan is survived by her brother-in-law Michael Marcone, who she knew since he was a young child and considered her own brother, and his wife, Roxanne St. Germain.

Susan had many memories of growing up in Fall River with her mom, Joan, and dad, Edward, her two sisters and extended family, where they would enjoy the beach, camping trips and family gatherings.

A grandmother’s greatest treasure is her granddaughter and anyone who knew Susan understood that, as she always referred to her granddaughter, Brooke, as her “#1.” Susan was known by GiGi to Brooke and she loved her more than anyone in the world and never hesitated to admit it. Whether they were out shopping, doing arts and crafts, taking nature walks or sharing their innermost thoughts together, they had a bond that could not be broken.

Susan took great pride in working for the City of Cambridge as the Finance Manager, where she was a loyal, dedicated, committed public servant for 35 years and truly cherished every minute of it. She loved working with the public and adored her co-workers, considering them her second family due to the special bond they all shared due to the many years they spent together. Susan was infamous for planning great office parties, being supportive, offering encouragement, helping anyone in need, and just being the most caring, loving person to work with.

Susan was an amazing cook, and loved to share this passion with her family and friends. She was a true artisan who loved crafting, especially wreaths in her later years, and those who were lucky enough to get one would understand. She loved to laugh, always was a great time to be with, and loved herself a limoncello martini. Susan enjoyed traveling and spending time in her second home in Naples, FL with her husband, family and the many friends that she made there.

Susan - We will always carry your memory in our hearts. You have touched the lives of so many and you will never be forgotten. You embodied the best of qualities: Unconditional love, strength, kindness and an unending generosity that was evident in the care you had for your family and friends. We cherish the 69 years we had with you and did not deserve a woman as wonderful as you in our lives. In the words of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” - Susan’s favorite song and one she always insisted be played at her funeral -let us end with:

“Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
And let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me”

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Susan’s family on Monday, November 25th in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, from 4 PM to 8 PM, and again on Tuesday, November 26th at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM.
