Silvia Carseli has died peacefully at home in Mystic, CT on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Born on September 15, 1937 in a small village next to Campulung Muscel, in Romania, she enjoyed a happy childhood until the Russian Army invaded her home Village at the end of the second World War.
Her life was forever stamped by the hardships of the communist repression. She was forced out of high school and was not allowed to return until her father agreed to have the small family farm appropriated by the communist regime. She was very determined and worked hard to succeed despite all adversities.
After graduation from college with a degree in metallurgical engineering, she worked for few years in a small mine town in Transylvania, and later on she settled down in Bucharest. There she met the love of her life, Mircea, whom she married in 1966. They had a very strong bond, based on love and trust.
When their son Constantin (Dinu) Carseli immigrated to the United States, they visited often to help raise their two grandchildren. The kids called her Maia, and that became her name for all of us. Maia was extremely proud when she and her husband became naturalized US citizens and eagerly voted in the previous election in 2020.
She is predeceased by her husband Mircea 2 years before. Maia leaves behind her son Dinu and daughter-in-law Anca, as well as her two grandchildren, Maria and Nick. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ecaterina, nephews and nieces and their families in the USA and/or Romania.
Maia will be forever remembered and cherished for her kindness and unassuming warm personality. Her hospitality knew no limits. She had the utmost dedication and love for her family and worked tirelessly to make everyone around her happy. Maia pampered her grandchildren with delicious foods and treats, that no one could possibly ever make as good as she did. She loved traditional folk music and dancing and gardening. We will forever love her and miss her dearly.
Her family invites relatives and friends for a calling hour beginning at 9:00am and a religious service at 10:00am on Saturday, November 9, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will immediately follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic
