Joan T. (Steeves) Mahoney, age 95, of Falmouth, MA formerly a longtime resident of Winchester and Somerville, passed away on November 1, 2024. She was the beloved wife for 66 years of Charles F. Mahoney, DMD, until his death in 2020.
Born in Somerville, Joan was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (King) Steeves. She was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She attended Salem State Teachers College and earned her degree in Early Childhood Education. While in college, Joan worked as a counselor at a Somerville summer recreation program where she met the love of her life, Charlie Mahoney. They married in 1953 and lived in Somerville before moving to Winchester in 1959. A homemaker, Joan’s life revolved around raising 5 children in a busy household. After the kids graduated, she and Charlie moved to Woburn and to West Falmouth on Cape Cod. They split their time between the two residences, and eventually moved to Falmouth full time. Joan loved the ocean and found great joy in being in the water. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed watercolor painting and antiquing. She was also an avid reader. In 2024, Joan proudly celebrated more than 40 years in recovery and enjoyed a strong community of friends. Joan is lovingly survived by her children: Katherine M.
