Agnes Plewe, a longtime resident of Norfolk, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, September 5, 2024. She was 81.
Born in Laufen, Germany on December 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Eleanor and Max Plewe of Munich, Germany.
At age 14, Agnes was trained in Munich’s prestigious Kopp Salon as an upscale hairdresser and was an expert colorist throughout her life. She met U.S. Army soldier Ray DeBriae (of Norfolk) and were married in Munich on March 17, 1963. Agnes left her beloved country to start her new life in America. Together with her husband, they had 3 children.
With the purchase of their first home, Agnes created a small salon shop where she built her clientele. As her business grew, she opened Agnes Hair Salon in Norfolk Center, hiring several hairdressers to work alongside her for two decades. When she retired, Agnes still continued doing her long-term clients out of her home and made home visits. Agnes built many close relationships with her customers, and it was important to her that she maintained those friendships into their elder years, which included making nursing home visits and doing their hair, so they felt special.
In her spare time, Agnes enjoyed vacationing in Germany, traveling to new places, music and dancing, the beach, tending her garden, cooking and baking, feeding her birds, and embracing her cultural traditions. She loved being Omi most of all. She left a beautiful legacy, set an example of family virtues, and believed it was important to never lose your sense of humor. Agnes will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.
Agnes is survived by her son Erik DeBriae and husband Lou DeLisio of Harvard, MA; her daughter Elke DeBriae Scanlan and husband Frank Scanlan of Quincy, MA; her daughter Tina Mosher and husband Greg Mosher of Murrieta, CA; her sister Linda Koebele of League City, TX; and her grandchildren Alexandria, Sean, Katherine, Lyla, and Wes.
A celebration of her life, Oktoberfest style, will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 2-5pm at Mick Morgan’s, 973 Providence Highway, Sharon, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Agnes’s name to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
