Claire M. Mooradd
1932 - 2024
SPRINGFIELD - Claire Marie (Balboni) Mooradd was received peacefully into the bosom of Jesus' Most Sacred Heart on Friday, September 6, 2024. She was the belove d and devoted wife of Paul F. Mooradd, Sr. for 53 years from May 18, 1957 until his death of November 5, 2010. The daughter of S. Louis Balboni and Yolanda (Malaguti), she lived her entire life in the city of Springfield.
Claire has three children, Father Paul Mooradd, who lived with and cared for her in the Forest Park section of Springfield; Dr. Michael Mooradd with his wife, Terrie, living in Doylestown, PA; and Diane (Mooradd) Perry currently residing in Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by her five beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Justin Carr, his wife, Patricia, and their daughter, Peyton, residing in West Springfield; Timothy Mooradd, his wife, Joanie, and their children, Colin and Grace, of Bethesda, MD; Catherine (Mooradd) Love, her husband, Steven, and their daughter, Emily, of Perkasie, PA; and Megan "Max" Perry and Molly Perry, both living in the Minneapolis, MN area.
Claire is also survived by her younger sister, Brenda Maggi, the devoted wife of Gino Maggi, Sr. until his death in 2009, and her children; Geno Maggi, Jr. and his wife, Nadine, of Longmeadow, Gina (Golash) Kos and her husband, Richard, of Chicopee, and Marie Presnal with her husband, Thomas, of Ludlow. In addition, Claire has nine nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family, the Checrallah Mooradds, their spouses, children and grandchildren who live all around the country.
Since her marriage to Paul in 1957, Claire was a faithful member of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and since her retirement in 1994, has also been a daily communicant at Holy Name Parish. In the early ‘60s, she joined Saint Anthony's Ladies Guild and has remained a member until her death. For 21 of those years, she volunteered on Saint Anthony's Bingo Committee working every Wednesday evening to raise the money needed to build their new church and parish hall on Island Pond Road. She even hosted the Sunday Coffee Clutch after each Mass along with her husband to help facilitate the fellowship of community and family at Saint Anthony. When her children were grown and on their own, Claire became a perpetual member of The Order of Saint Sharbel - a diocesan organization dedicated to sponsoring all the educational expenses for any young man studying for the priesthood. Thus, God lovingly credits the sacramental minister and work of every priest ordained from Our Lady of Lebanon Seminary in Washington, DC to her personal sacrifice - the true Way of Christ's Cross, the sacrifice of life to give life.
Claire graduated from Springfield Technical High School and worked for HP Hood Dairy Company before her marriage. Afterwards in the early ‘60s, she drove children to and from Trinity Church Nursery School, and worked the 2nd shift at Milton Bradley Company making plastic inflatable toys. By the end of the decade, she was employed as a teller in the old Valley Bank at the X. In the ‘70s, she was hired by The Insurance Company of North America (INA) on Maple Street as an underwriter's clerk. When INA relocated out of the area, she was hired by Mass Mutual at their headquarters on State Street where she remained until her retirement 20+ years later.
