Obituary


Falmouth – Robert Francis Rushton, 82, died at home in Waquoit on January, 2024. Born in Boston on March 21, 1941, he was the son of his late parents John Alfred Rushton and Florence G. (Doucette) Rushton.

Bob was a graduate of Boston Technical High School. A sports enthusiast, he loved his job as an usher at the Boston Garden and was employed by the Continental Baking Company for many years. He later moved into the work of providing transportation for a variety of school districts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Married to the Reverend Janet Smith-Rushton for 47 years, they lived in the Massachusetts communities of Springfield, Athol, South Walpole, East Longmeadow, Wareham, and Reading as well as Concord, New Hampshire before retiring to Falmouth in 2016. Robert was a member of each United Methodist Church where Jan served as pastor:

Bob is survived by their daughter Jenny Dixon, and her husband, Matthew and grandsons Jack and Noah of Latrobe, Pennsylvania and their son, Jason Rushton, and his wife, Kathryn and grandsons Aidan and Benjamin of Middletown, Rhode Island. He also leaves daughters, Theresa Bailey of Tucson, Arizona and Lee Ann Perry of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, son Mark Rushton of Colorado, daughter Kerri Spring of Prosper, Texas, and son Matthew Rushton of Nashua, New Hampshire.

In addition, Robert is survived by his twin brother, John Rushton and wife, Jean of Winter Park, Florida, mother-in-law, Carol Smith, of Falmouth, and brothers-in-law the Reverend Richard Whitefleet-Smith and wife, JoAnn of Worcester, MA and nieces Jamie Menard, and Laura Whitefleet-Smith and David Smith and wife, Julie of West Bridgewater, MA and niece Rebecca and nephews Daniel and Joshua, great nieces, nephews and a lifetime circle of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
