Obituary

LACONIA ---- Randy H. Annis, 69, of Belmont Road, died on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after an unrelenting 10-month battle with B-Cell Lymphoma. He took his last breath surrounded by his wife and children.

Randy was born on August 9th, 1954, in Mineola, NY, son of the late James Martin Annis and Barbara Phyllis (Wilkinson) Annis. Randy graduated from Laconia High School in 1972 where he met and kept lifelong friends. He attended The University of Miami in Florida, but decided to return to the Lakes Region to work in the family business, Lily Pond Manufactured Housing with his father and brother. Randy attained his real estate license and worked as a broker/agent at JG Realty in Gilford for many years nurturing his network of colleagues, customers and friends. Most recently he worked as a broker/agent at REMAX Bayside in Laconia.

Randy always worked hard, but he played harder. He was a natural athlete and could easily play any sport. Randy loved watching Owen play sports to the point he stayed up late and watched the NBA to get a better handle on basketball and Charlotte with her sports and amazing dance events. He was generous with his time and enjoyed sharing and teaching others his passion for the game. In the warmer months, he could be found giving golf lessons at Bolduc Park in Gilford, golfing as often as life would allow. He was a proud longtime member of The Laconia Country Club and earned the title of Club President and, at least once, Club Champion and Senior Club Champion. In the winter months, he could be found skiing, ski instructing, and helping to run Gunstock’s Ski School Program. Randy enjoyed vacationing in warm climates, such as Costa Rica, with his wife and close friends and would always slide in a trip or two to play golf with the boys. He and his son, Geremy, took a trip to Kodiak, Alaska to visit relatives at Munsey’s Bear Camp for a little fishing and of course Randy was reprimanded for feeding the wildlife his pizza crust.

He remained very active until his diagnosis and even in his darkest days of treatment, he remained focused on his goal to return to the golf course and attain the elusive “hole-in-one.

Randy was a dedicated and faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous. For over 20 years he selflessly served on both local and state AA service Boards. Due to his altruistic work of sharing the message of recovery to others, many men and women found their way into recovery and salvaged their lives. These souls and their families will always be grateful for Randy’s guidance and compassion.

If you consider yourself from the Lakes Region, then chances are you crossed paths with Randy and your day was brightened by his presence. His charismatic personality drew people in. With his “stupid” jokes, quick wit, and silly humor, he was very easy to be around. He was not a handyman, not very good with tools, but he was clever and could usually find a temporary solution or creative fix for any problem. He was a thoughtful gift giver and was delighted to watch the reactions of those who received his unique (often handcrafted) gifts. He inspired all to find joy and laughter in life.

Randy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Melissa “Mia” Annis; son, Geremy and wife Brielle of Laconia; daughter, Samantha (Annis) and husband Adam Hawkins of Gilmanton; and his adoring grandchildren, Owen (13) and Charlotte (10). In addition to his parents, James M. Annis (1997) and Barbara P. (Wilkinson) Annis (2014), he was predeceased by his daughter, Amy (Annis) Colby (2013), and brothers, James C Annis (2021), and Mark V Annis (2021).

A Celebration of Randy’s Life will be held at Laconia Country Club on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 3-6pm. Casual “golfing attire” would be welcomed.
