FRENCH, Susan Of Dedham, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Wednesday, February 8, 2023 after a sudden illness. She was 75.
She was born Susan Brown in Dedham on April 22, 1947 to Donald and Louise Brown. As a child, she loved spending time at her grandparents farm in New Hampshire with her sister, Donna. In 1962, she met her husband, Allen French. They were married the following year and had their oldest son, Warren. Four years later, they were joined by their younger son, Brian.
Together with her husband, Susan owned and operated French Packaging Services out of Waltham. Susan was the glue that held French Packaging together, wearing many hats and stepping into any role that was asked of her.
Known affectionately as “Gram”, Susan had a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was kind, generous, empathetic, and charismatic. She would give the shirt off of her back to anyone who needed it. Her favorite activities included spending time with her family, catching up on Survivor, getting her nails done at Nails and Co., or yelling at her favorite Patriots on a Sunday afternoon.
Susan was resilient, loving, and dedicated to her family. She was sharp as a tack with a quick wit. She could often be found in her recliner in the back room while shouting at family in the kitchen, “What are ya looking for hon?!”
Some of her best known phrases include: “I can chew but I can’t swallow!”, “Be true to your teeth or they’ll be false to you.”, and “Son of a seabiscuit!”
Susan is survived by her son Warren and wife Courtney, of Plymouth and son Brian and wife Ann Marie, of Norfolk. She leaves behind grandchildren Linzy, Sarah, Maddie, Mitchell, Elise, and Corinne and one great-grandchild, Benjamin. Her family will miss her tremendously.
Funeral services will be private. A Celebration of Life is planned for later in the spring. Donations may be made in Susan’s memory to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, www.helpfightra.org
