James J. Morrison, 61, of Acushnet passed away Monday October 24, 2022 at home after a long battle with ALS surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Moniz) Morrison.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Virginia M. (Mullaly) Morrison and the late James “Buddy” Morrison, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to Acushnet 15 years ago.
Jim was a well-known seafood sales representative, having worked at Captain Frank’s, Mar-Lees Seafood, JT Sea Products, and Northern Wind Seafood. He was later employed as an industrial sales representative for Goizper North America.
An avid sports fan, he was involved with coaching DYAA football and baseball and later Fairhaven-Acushnet Little League baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was an active golfer and organized the annual Friendly Sons golf tournament for many years. He had also been involved in many charitable endeavors for various local organizations. His favorite activity though was to be surrounded by his family and friends and attending his children’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, James, Luke, and Ava Morrison; his sisters, Deborah Mimoso and her husband Michael and Donna Spirlet and her husband Troy; and his nieces and nephews, Stefanie Napier, Meredith Bauer, Cameron Mimoso, Cooper and Drew Spirlet, and Jeffrey Morrison.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jeffrey Morrison.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday October 28th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
