Obituary

Noyes, Virginia Theresa (Foley) Noyes, Virginia, 89, of Cambridge, formerly of East Dennis and Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2022 with all of her children caring for her and at her side. She was born in Dedham, MA to her parents, Patrick J. Foley and Nellie Breen Foley, both pre-deceased. She is survived by her beloved family: her children, Patricia Noyes-Corrigan of Boston and Dennis, MA; Marianne Noyes of Cambridge, MA; Geraldine Noyes-Nichols, of Wellesley, MA; Francis P. Noyes, III of Ashland, MA; Suzanne Milando of Concord, MA; and Shawn Noyes of Dennis, MA; sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and sons and daughters in law. She is also survived by her sister, Eileen Foley Curtin of Cambridge, MA and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her beloved grandson, Patrick J. Corrigan, and her sisters, Sr. Mary Eileen Foley and Marianne Foley. She is pre-deceased by her former husband, Francis Paul Noyes, II with whom she had six children.

She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain, MA in 1950. The youngest daughter of Irish immigrants, she was awarded a full scholarship to attend Emmanuel College in Boston and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics, with highest honors. Upon graduation, she worked as a Junior Engineer for Research and Development in Engineering at Natick Laboratory, Natick, MA. While raising her children, she then earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Boston State Teacher’s College. Among other things, Virginia taught Algebra and Calculus at Northeastern University, as well as general Mathematics courses at Middlesex Community College and ABCD in Boston. She also worked in management at SunLife Financial where she earned FLMI IT Trainer of distinction. Upon her retirement she moved from Wellesley, MA, her home of many years, to East Dennis, MA where she spent time with her children and many grandchildren enjoying the bayside beaches she loved, and family filled dinners and cookouts. She became an active member at Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster, MA where she was a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered at the thrift shop and annual fair, and worked with the underserved community in shelters in Hyannis. A life-long learner with a keen intellect, she was an active member of the American Association of University Women and pursued her interests in poetry and literature in book clubs as well as continuing adult education classes. She was an Opera aficionado, avid bridge player and loved to travel and spend winters in Florida with her sisters. Above all else, Virginia was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She lived a long and faith filled life focused on her family and served as a model and example of grace and kindness for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her lovely, calm presence will be missed greatly.

Funeral Mass in celebration of her life in St. Cecilia’s Church, 18 Belvidere Street, Boston, MA 02115 on March 4, 2022 at 10:00 am, with a Visiting Hour prior to the Mass from 9:00-10:00 am at St. Cecilia’s.
