Stephen A. Hebert, 74, of New Bedford died October 22, 2021 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Margaret R. (Souza) Hebert.
Born in Detroit, MI, son of the late Normand A. and Irene B. (Tetreault) Hebert, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was formerly employed as a police officer and detective with the New Bedford Police Department for 32 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed wintering in Rock Ledge, FL, golfing, spending time with family and friends, boating and swimming. He was an avid New England sports fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Troy Hebert and his wife Rebecca of Dartmouth; a daughter, Tammy Wynn and her husband Frederick of Taunton; a sister, Marsha Gushue and her husband Bill of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Joseph Paquette of Fall River; 8 grandchildren, Hailey Hebert, Lily Hebert, Phoebe Butler, Caleb Butler, Aubrey Butler, Adam Sousa, Brian Sousa and Kaylie Wynn; a niece, Alyssa and a nephew, Kyle.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 30th at 9 AM at St. Lawrence Church 565 County St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
