Signe Marie Meals, a resident of Woburn and a dedicated teacher, died at home on August 27, 2021. She was 55 years old.
Signe grew up in Winchester, the seventh child of eight in the Ulwick family. She was a sweet, happy child who loved meeting people and was always ready to try new adventures. Signe graduated Winchester High School in 1984 and then graduated Utah State University with a degree in Education. She began her long career as an educator in the Arlington Public Schools, teaching 5th grade as she completed her Master’s in Education from Leslie University, and eventually moving into Special Education as she had a strong desire to advocate for others. Signe married the love of her life, Christopher Meals in 2002, settling in Woburn, MA. Signe and Chris' daughter, Sara was born in 2006. Signe devoted herself to being a mother while enjoying summer vacations at their lake home in Maine, and traveling every opportunity she could with her family. She was adventurous, learning to scuba dive, and taking great pride in her small plane flight lessons as she had a sense of connection with her father who was a WWII naval aviator. Signe, Chris, and Sara were always ready to experience new adventures together; swimming with dolphins, flying in ultralights, taking helicopter rides, and just enjoying all the world had to offer. Our much-loved Signe was a caring, sensitive, and loving person as evidenced by her work as a teacher, and by the many people who loved her and called her their friend. Her life ended too soon, and she will be deeply missed. Signe leaves Christopher Todd Meals, her beloved husband of 19 years, and her cherished daughter Sara Marie Meals. She is the loving daughter of Dorothy M. Ulwick and the late James C. Ulwick, the dear sister of Jim Ulwick, Janet Ulwick-Sacca, Julie Doe, Lisa Ulwick, John Ulwick, Jennifer Ulwick, and the late Christine Ulwick. She will be missed by her Father-in-Law Clarence Meals, her Mother-in-Law Carolyn Durbin, Sisters-in-Law Dawn Webb and Rebecca Young, and Brother-in-Laws Wade and Mike Meals. She is the loving aunt of so many nieces and nephews, and of her very special godchildren, Stephanie Ulwick and Jake Ulwick. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Friday, September 3 from 5-8 pm and to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, MA 01890 Saturday, September 4th at 11am.
