Maria Marie Hughes, age 74 passed away unexpectedly in her home on June 15th, 2021, in West Warwick, Rhode Island.
Marcia was born on May 17th, 1947, in Rutherford, NJ to Mary Elizabeth and Rocco Galgano, and was the younger sister to her triplet brothers, William, Robert, and James. As well as the older sister to Patricia. Marcia graduated from Park Ridge High School in 1965. Upon graduating she entered Nursing School at Montclair University where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
Marcia spent a long career as a nurse, including serving at hospitals, clinics, and health care organizations. Her patients and their families would often recognize Marcia's gentle loving care, and her tireless efforts to treat them, or orchestrate care to ensure their comfort. Marcia also worked as an interior designer during her career.
Marcia was a gourmet cook and music lover. She had a passion for preparing meals for her family and friends while listening to classical works by Vivaldi, or her favorite musicals. She also could be heard playing her flute for hours in her home. Or listening to her daughter Marny, sing and play the piano. She loved to sew decorative pillows and curtains for the ones she loved, which will be cherished in her memory. Also, during the holidays, Marcia was dedicated to creating handcrafted decorations to give to her closest family and friends. Marcia also loved to be near the water, and take moonlit walks with her family and friends, when she could admire the beauty of the moon reflecting off the ocean. She also was a lover of baseball, and loved to spend her evenings with her husband Martin, watching her Yankees, and spent countless hours at baseball and softball fields during her life watching her children Griffin, Jason, and Riley play. Finally, she loved being in the company of her beloved children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, Mary Elizabeth and Rocco, and her brothers Robert and William.
She is survived by her husband Martin Hughes. Four beloved children Jason Hughes and wife Patti; daughter Marny Hughes; daughter Griffin Hughes-Douglas and husband Morgan; son Riley Hughes and wife Angela. She also leaves behind her loving sister Patricia Galgano and husband Claude Taybi; and brother James and wife Kate. Four cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Colin, Julia, and Alexander. As well as her adoring God Mother, Sister Catherine Kirchner.
Calling hours will be held of Wednesday, June 23 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin from 4-6 p.m.
Services will be private.
