Patricia A. (Lavache) Greenwood, 84, of Harwich and a former longtime Dedham resident, died peacefully at home with her children by her side, Friday, May 7, 2021, following a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late John Greenwood, with whom she shared almost 50 years of marriage.
Born July 30, 1936 in Boston, a daughter of the late Victor C. and Anne E. (Schortmann) Lavache.
She was raised in West Roxbury and was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas School, Jamaica Plain class of 1954. She then enrolled at the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in Dorchester, where she received her nursing degree in 1957.
Upon her graduation from nursing school she became a dedicated nurse at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester where she continued to work for over 42 years, until her retirement in 1999.
She was a devoted mother, who enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling to many places around the world with her husband, including yearly vacations to Aruba and winters in Florida, she was involved in many clubs and organizations throughout the years.
Patricia’s faith was a guiding principal in her life; she attended St. Mary’s Parish in Dedham and Holy Trinity Parish in Harwich.
She is survived by her children, John J. Greenwood and his wife Nancy of Walpole, Karen E. Smith and her husband Barry of Bellingham, Stephen M. Greenwood of Quincy, Patrice A. Mayo and her husband Joseph of Harwich and Dianne M. Oteri and her husband Sean of Franklin, her brothers Richard Lavache of NH, Peter Lavache and his wife Lynne of NH, Stephen Lavache and his wife Ginger of RI and her sister, Linda Anastasia of North Attleboro.
Also surviving are 10 cherished grandchildren, Catherine and John Greenwood, Tyler and Benjamin Smith, Samantha Mayo, Anthony, Jordan and Isabella Oteri, Ashley and Thomas Mandeville, and many nieces & nephews.
She was the mother of the late Paul A. Greenwood and sister of the late Victor Lavache, Robert Lavache, and Daniel Lavache.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass Friday May 14th, in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 420 High St. Dedham, MA at 10AM.
Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery.
