Maria C. (Melo) Pacheco, 87, of New Bedford died August 9, 2016 unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born and raised in the village of Agua De Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Borges) Melo, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Mrs. Pacheco was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family.
The family would like to thank her caregiver Manuela Cormier for all that she has done for the family.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Iria Arruda of New Bedford and Lucille Paiva and her husband John of Garner, NC; 4 grandchildren, Paul Arruda and his wife Suzanne, Robert Paiva and his wife Catharine, Rodney Arruda and his wife Stephanie and Gorette Musitano and her husband Glen; 5 great-grandchildren, Nathan Mendonca, Alexis Musitano, Gabriel Arruda, Joshua Musitano and Evaleen Paiva; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Lucy Branco and mother-in-law of the late Herculano Arruda.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, August 12th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, August 11th from 4-7 PM.
