LACONIA – Joseph O. Lapointe, 96, of 406 Court Street and formerly of 27 Lincoln Street, died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Laconia.
Mr. Lapointe was born on May 12, 1918 in St. Magloire, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Wellee and Marie (Lejeune) Lapointe. Mr. Lapointe served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He had been a resident of Laconia since 1940 and had been employed at the Laconia Shoe Co. for thirty-eight years. Joseph was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, one of the original members of the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post #1 and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Laconia Post #1670. He loved fishing and woodworking. Joseph was also an avid Red Sox fan.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rose A. (Prince) Lapointe, of Laconia; two sons, Peter Lapointe and his wife Malou and David Lapointe and his wife Diane, all of Laconia; two grandchildren, Sarah Lapointe of Laconia and Jonathan Lapointe of Henniker; three great grandchildren, two brothers, Paul Lapointe of Welland, Ontario, Canada and Robert Lapointe of Welland, Ontario, Canada, one half brother, Jean-Marc Lapointe of Montreal, Canada, a half sister, Ghislaine Lessard of Quebec, Canada and two step sisters; Marielle and Rejeanne Gagnon, both of Canada.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lapointe was predeceased by an infant daughter, Sandra Jean Lapointe , three brothers; Ovila Lapointe, Lucien Lapointe and Marius Lapointe and one sister, Lucienne Bouley.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10AM at St. Andre Bessette Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia, N.H.
Burial will follow in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield St., Laconia.
