Obituary

CIOFFARI, Angelina (Grimaldi) 101 passed away peacefully in her home in Waban on the night of Sept. 3. Born in Port Chester NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Corigliano) Grimaldi and devoted wife of 59 years of Vincent Cioffari. She is survived by her loving son Vincent Grimaldi Cioffari, daughter-in-law of Lorraine Vekens, and nephews Steven, Paul and Richard Cioffari and niece Anne Gray.

She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1935 and received her Master Degree from Columbia University in 1940. She taught Italian, French and Latin at Ossining (NY) High School from 1935-1946 with a hiatus during World War II training soldiers in Italian in preparation for the Invasion of Italy at the United States Armed Forces Institute in Iowa. She later taught Italian part time at Boston University and Harvard University, and was an Associate Professor of Languages (Italian, French & Spanish) at Massachusetts Bay Community College until her retirement in 1980. She was the author of "Italian Operatic Arias" and of several published readers for the teaching of Italian, some stilll in print. She was a generous supporter of educational and culturual organizations, including in particular the Metropolitan Opera of New York, Cornell University (her husband's alma mater), Carnegie Hall and the Boston Symphony.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St, (Rte. 16) WELLESLEY Monday at 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8. Interment Newton Cemetery.
