Evans, GA – Samuel Dennis Carraway, III, 31, loving husband, son, teacher, and coach, entered into rest on Thursday, April 3, 2014.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at West Acres Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Dennis was a lifelong resident of Evans, GA. He was a graduate of Evans High School and Augusta State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and Specialist Degree. Dennis was an eighth grade history teacher at Columbia Middle School and was also the head football coach. Dennis loved his kids at school and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He was an avid UGA fan and loved listening to his favorite band, The Beatles.
Survivors include his wife; Amber Carraway, of Evans, GA, his mother; Marian Madison Pirtle (Tim) of Evans, GA, his father; Samuel Dennis Carraway, Jr. (Annette) of Grovetown, GA, brother; Timmy Pirtle of Evans, GA, sisters; Taylor Pirtle, Crystal Nason, Jessica Lowe; paternal grandmother; Peggy Poole; mother and father in law; Kirk and Wanda Harrington of Martinez, GA, brother in law; Cayd Harrington, sister in law; Brittany Harrington; and his loving Chihuahua; London. Dennis was preceded in death by his mathernal grandparents; Doris Brown and Earl Madison, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather; Melvin Poole.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Pirtle, Cayd Harrington, William Rosabal, Adam Folk, Chris Corley, Kevin Burns, Sean Blackburn, Jason Lichtenberg, and Jay Mixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve McNair, Brandon Nason, Eduardo Lowe, Chad Curry, Eric Frye and all past and present CMS Raider football players.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
