George Martin, 73, of Westport died Thursday, December 19, 2013, peacefully at home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Theresa A. (Mello) Martin, they were married for 50 years.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Louis and Mary L. (Souza) Martin, he had lived in Westport for 50 years. Mr. Martin was a truck driver for Gladding-Hearn, Inc., Somerset and was also a driver for F.R. Knitting Mills and Fall River Florist Supply. He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. George loved auto racing, working at Seekonk Speedway for several years and he loved fishing on his boat “Low Buck”. He was a member of the Fall River Bowling Green Fishing Club, the Blue Water Anglers Fishing Club in Portsmouth, the St. John’s Fishing Club in Fall River and the Seaconnet Sportsman Club in Portsmouth.
Including his loving wife, he is survived by: a daughter: Christine S. Munro of Park City, UT; 3 grandchildren: Morgann Munro, Scott Munro and Benjamin Munro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, December 24, 2013 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 5 – 8 P.M.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
