Died December 3, 2013
Passed peacefully at home with his wife of 67 years by his side on Tuesday December 3rd, 2013. Born January 26th, 1923 in Minneapolis, Mn. Raised in Sioux City, Ia. Longtime resident of North St Paul, Mn. Served as Sergeant in the US Army, Company A, 14th Infantry, 71st Division in Europe during WWII. Discharged January 4th, 1946, bee-lined his way back to California, got the girl, and was married on January 24th. He loved traveling the US and spending time working on and relaxing at his cabin in Ely, Mn. John was a self-employed CPA for over 55 years, a gifted pianist, and weekend construction 'engineer'. He enjoyed fishing, pontooning, big band music, listening to Eydie Gorme, and riding his Gold Wing. Over the years he provided his family with multiple trips to Mexico, Florida, an Alaska 'adventure', camping in the western states, and annual 4th of July 'private' fireworks displays. Preceded in death by beloved son John Michael Carlson. Survived by his wife Roberta "Bobbie"; daughters Terry, and Suzanna (Neil) Maldeis; son Richard (Kathy); grandchildren Katie, Kristen (Jack), Ashley (Jason), Dana, Richard, Eric, Bjorn (Amber), Ebony; and great grandchildren Andre, Andrew, Claire, Lucy, Henry. Visitation Thursday (12/5) 4-7 PM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul. Private family service and interment. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made to Union Gospel Mission, St Paul or Sharing and Caring Hands, Minneapolis.
