MACZKA, MARIA 10-21-1930 to 07-07-2013
Maria Maczka joined her late parents, Tekla (Fil) and Jozef Seweryn; her beloved husband of fifty three years, Julian Maczka and her six siblings in eternal rest on July 7, 2013. Maria is survived by one brother, Eugeniusz Seweryn of Wroclaw, Poland; two daughters, Elizabeth Fras and her husband Michael, of Webster, MA and Grazyna Paluszek and her husband Jan, of Goszcz, Poland. “Babcia” Maria also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Wayne Olejnik, of South Boston, Jolanta Olejnik Nave and her husband Edward, of South Boston, Marta Paluszek Krzemien (Poland), Larysa Olejnik Dooley and her husband Paul, of Dorchester, Anita Olejnik Cohen, of Peabody, Peter Olejnik, of Dorchester, and Kasia Paluszek (Poland). Her passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of her beloved great-grandchildren Oliver, Olivia, Pawel, Antus, and Maia who reinvigorated her after the passing of her husband in 2000.
Maria emigrated to America with her husband while in their forties and through hard work, love and dedication to their family, they achieved the American dream. Since the age of six Maria understood the meaning of earning a hard day’s wage. She left school only after the fifth grade in Poland to support her family and instilled her notion of self-reliance upon her children and grandchildren. Maria was so proud to call the Copley Plaza Hotel her employer for twenty years where she worked as a housekeeper. She displayed her “employee of the year” and countless “employee of the month” plaques proudly for all her friends, family and guests to see whenever they visited.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the non-profit, Green Center Assisted Living, which will provide state of the art elder care in and around central Massachusetts when completed - www.greencenterassistedliving.org.
Visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Stanislaus Church, 171 Chestnut Street, Chelsea at 10 AM and interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
