Elliot Rogers Reiner, MD (“Tim”), 93, died on April 10, after a long illness, in his home in Worcester. He was born in Portsmouth New Hampshire in 1919, and moved to Lancaster Massachusetts shortly thereafter, where he grew up. He was educated at Clark University, University of Alabama, and Yale Medical School. He was in the Navy Marine Corp during World War II and served in hospitals in Washington DC and Portsmouth Va. He returned to Worcester in 1948 to complete his training in psychiatry at Worcester State Hospital.
During his years in Worcester, Dr. Reiner was Director or Research at Worcester State Hospital and had a private practice in psychiatry. He worked with the Pastoral Counseling Center and at the Child Guidance Center, and was on the staff at Memorial Hospital. He was very interested in conservation and left a large tract of woodland in Andover NY in a conservation trust with the Society for Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
He leaves his children Margaret Reiner Morris of Chapel Hill, NC, Eric Alan Reiner and his wife Virginia of White Bear Lake, MN, and Carl W. Reiner and his wife Lori of Westerly, RI; his grandchildren Julia Catherine Morris Piasecki and her husband Kevin of Seattle, WA, Neal Carl Morris and his wife Catherine of Chapel Hill, NC, Rachel Maves and her husband Steve of Minneapolis, MN, Joshua Reiner and his wife Jennifer of Edina, MN, and Aaron Rogers Reiner and his wife Danielle of Chicago, IL; and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine Haworth Cook Reiner and son Timothy Carter Reiner.
There will be a memorial service for him at 11 am on May 4 in Lancaster, MA, at the First Church of Christ, Unitarian. All who knew him are welcome.
