Paul F. McAlister, a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era and 42 year resident of Stoughton,passed away at home on Monday September 24, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66 years old and the beloved wife of Wendy C. (Kirchner) McAlister to whom he was married to for over 42 years. Besides his loving and caring wife he is also survived by his children, Heather M. Jackman of Stoughton and Michael C. McAlister and his wife Elaina. Other survivors include his brother Ernest W. McAlister and his wife Mary A. of Quincy,MA and Sarasota,FLA., his sister Joan L. Fleming and her husband John of Braintree and his three grandchildren, Alexis M. Jackman, Evan R. Jackman and Jake R. McAlister. He was also a brother- in- law to the late Noreen M. McAlister and the cherished grandfather of the late Paige C. Jackman.
Born September 25, 1946 in Boston,Massachusetts , he was a son to the late Ernest S. and Bertha G. (Smith) McAlister. He attended Boston Public Schools and was a 1964 graduate of Dorchester High School. Paul also attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Mr. McAlister was honorably discharged from the United States Army after 4 years of dedicated service to our country. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. McAlister had a lengthy working career as a Pipefitter and HVAC Contractor and from 1966 to the present was a proud member of the Pipefitters Union Local # 537.
Mr. McAlister volunteered and served the town of Stoughton as both an active elected Precinct 8 Town Meeting Representative, retired member of the Zoning Board and was also a member of the Stoughton Town Hall Building Committee. Paul was a proud member of the American Legion Post # 327 in Mission Hill. Paul was also a member of the Braintree Rifle & Pistol Club, the NRA and G.O.A.L.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 27, 2012 from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. Paul’s funeral service will be held on Friday September 28, 2012 at 10 A.M. from the Faith Baptist Church, 18 Stoughton Street, Stoughton. The Rev. Stanley W. Schultz Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. All are welcome to attend.
