Dr. Patricia Marie (Schipul) Stanley, age 71, died suddenly on June 16, 2012.
Patricia, the daughter of the late Arthur H. and Elise M. (Monaghan) Schipul, was born in Bridgeport, CT. Dr. Stanley was a retired educator who spent much of her career teaching disadvantaged children in the Washington, DC area. Dr. Stanley was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport (CT), the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Denver. She was an Emeritus Member of the Phi Delta Kappa education honors fraternity, and she held the Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate from the state of Maryland, the highest such credential awarded. She was awarded the Challenge Coin by the Director, Command, Control, Communications and Computers, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps. She resided in Wayland, MA since 1991 with her husband. Prior to that, she lived with him in several U.S. states, as well as in Germany, Belgium, and Canada. She was a founding member of the U.S. Army Community Services Organization, which supports soldiers and their families; and is the author of “Air Force Academy Parenting,” a guide for parents of Air Force cadets. Since 2005, she divided her time between Wayland and Alexandria, VA. Patricia is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard A. Stanley (Lt. Col., USA ret.) of Wayland and Alexandria, VA; by her son, Lt. Col. Thomas R. Stanley (USAF ret.) and his wife Deborah; and by her grandchildren: Robert, Jeffrey, and Rachel Stanley, all of Waldorf, MD. She is also survived by her brother, Attorney William R. Schipul and his wife Martha, of Trumbull, CT; and by her sister-in-law, Catherine Schipul of the Commonwealth of Dominica, W.I. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Dr. Arthur Schipul, Jr. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland, MA, and Friday, June 22 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 612 Grand Street, Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow in Nichols Farms Burial Ground, Nichols, CT with the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson, Pastor of Peace Lutheran Church, Wayland, MA officiating. |
