Dennis M. Brennan, 58, of New Bedford, died April 15, 2004, unexpectedly at home.He was the husband of Christine D. (DeMello) Brennan.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Charles M. and Helena A. (Osenkowski) Brennan, he had lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Rhode Island School of Electronics.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Mr. Brennan was employed at Channel 6 News in New Bedford and Providence as a master controller for the past 32 years , and was also employed part-time as a Deputy Sheriff and NRA Instructor.He served as a Boatswain's Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Service medal with one bronze star and the Vietnam Campaign medal. He later served in the Coast Guard Reserves.
Mr. Brennan was a member of the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association, the Acushnet Rifle & Pistol Club, the New Bedford Rod & Gun Club, the New Bedford Revolver & Rifle Club, the Mattapoisett Power Squadron, the National Rifle Association, GOAL, and a member and former Commander and Vice-Commander of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #605.
In his younger years, he was a lifeguard, a volunteer for Alden Ambulance Corps, a former Civil Defense member, a member of Junior Achievement, and an Emergency Medical Technician
Survivors include his wife; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Michael Brennan.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Monday, April 19th at 7:30 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 8:30 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday, April 18th from 4-8 PM.
Interment private.
