Alexander "Walter" MacEachern

Alexander Walter MacEachern, Massachusetts business owner, holder of several US
Patents, US Navy Veteran, pharmacist, kilt-wearer and a man beloved by his family and
friends died Sunday, March 25, 2012 surrounded by his family at the Kaplan House in
Danvers.
Mr. MacEachern, known as "Walter", was born in Somerville, Massachusetts in
August of 1932, the oldest of seven children born to Alexander and Florence Mitchell
MacEachern.
Walter graduated from Malden Catholic High School then put himself through the
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy where he earned his Bachelor of Science in
Pharmacy. He received his Masters of Business Administration from Boston College,
where he also earned his teaching certificate in addition to his MBA. After his marriage to Mary Riemer of Arlington in 1960, Walter eventually moved to
Woburn where he became an active member of the community. He was a Pop Warner
football referee for many years, basketball coach, a member of the Knights of Columbus,
played guitar and sang the folk Mass at St. Barbara`s Church where he also performed in
many of the church`s talent shows, as well as raising his six children in the town in which
he spent 38 years.
It is also in Woburn that Mr. MacEachern headquartered his medical device company
which was sold to Arrow International, Inc in 1998 as reported in the Wall St. Journal.
A member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead for more than 20 years, Mr.
MacEachern retired to his oceanside home in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He spent
much of his time boating and enjoying the beauty of Massachusetts` North Shore.
In addition to his many business achievements, he was a naturally gifted singer and
musician playing instruments including the guitar, banjo, piano, and xylophone. He
shared his love of music and laughter with his fifteen grandchildren – the focus of his life
in his later years.
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary; his children: Gayle of Marblehead, Gary of
Lynnfield, Christopher of West Palm Beach, FL, Charles of Bedford, NH, Stephanie of
Beverly and Matthew of Nantucket; and his 15 grandchildren: Alexandra, Alex, Devon,
Paige, Maxwell, Mitchell, Chase, Ian, Mackenzie, Ava, Nicholas, Thomas, Grace Lily,
Hunter and Grace Carolina.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN Friday March 30th at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
